KLAUS JÜRGEN SCHMIDT
Klaus (Jürgen Schmidt) navigates fashion, design & contemporary art as an undivided cultural world. Reckoning a future as mined from the past, his work exists beyond time. Offering various outcomes in his multidisciplinary practice, his studio investigates and attempts to propose artistic alternatives to blurred and incomplete histories with a nod to queer subcultures. Noteworthy textiles and objects of adornment are continuously made as consulting textiles director at cult Italian menswear brand, Magliano; whilst past research / textile / object collaborations have included Andre Walker, Versace, Hussein Chalayan and Martine Rose amongst others. The work has been published in Another Magazine, Vogue, Acne Paper, Dazed & Confused, Nomas, Corriere, Kappa and Purple. Recent gallery shows include REMIX at OXILIA, Milano; EVERYTHING WILL END IN RUINS at Haus N, Athens; A RAVE DOWN BELOW at Eleusis 2023; DANCING PLAGUE at Gamec Bergamo; VESSELS at Sized, Frieze LA; INDUSTRIALISM, Frieze New York; DIECI at OXILIA; Salone Di Mobile. Klaus lives and works in Athens, Greece.

A Rave Down Below
Mystery 151 A Rave Down Below explores the political dynamics of the body in motion from a simultaneously geological and cultural underground point of departure. Alchemical wanderings from the historical past towards mythology and a post-industrial present culminate in a delirious dance. Inebriation, intoxication, revulsion, euphoria, release, vent, and ascent; a circular path from the body to the ground and back again.
